Tried and Tested!

My love of fashion and make up is ingrained from when I was a young girl. I had an obsession with makeup. My mum didn’t wear make up but she had this one lipstick in a coral colour. I would sneak into her room and put it on and then admire how I looked in the mirror. I think most little girls will play with makeup at some point in their life.

Then I would save all my pocket money and buy different colour nail polish. My primary school didn’t allow nail polish, so I was forever having to take it off 😂. Then once a month my favourite Dolly magazine came out. I would devour the ‘what was trending’ and how the models wore the clothes, funny how we are influenced at such a young age. Nothing has changed really has it??

Then my teenager years hit - ACNE….OMG it made me feel so self conscious and ugly. Yes, I’m going to be totally honest. I made my parents buy practically every product to try and clear it up. But it was cystic acne and nothing over the counter was going to clear it up. It impacted my self esteem so much. I got teased and so that didn’t help. Going to an all girls school was ok, as I didn’t have to worry about the boys thinking I was ugly. Yep, there is that word again. Because that is how I saw myself. It didn’t matter I had lovely eyes and mega watt smile. My skin defined me, I thought…. I then went to a Dermatologist, who put me on Roaccutane. My skin cleared up so well and had no side effects. I felt so amazing, having clear skin. But it took years for my confidence to come back. I had scaring, so I started wearing foundation, it was my mask. I never stopped until about a 3 yrs ago (covid helped with that).

While working full time as a Property Manager, I did my Diploma of Beauty Therapy in the evenings and one full day a week. On Saturday’s I worked at a beauty salon, doing work experience. I wanted to be a Beauty Therapist and help other young girls going through what I had been through. But when I moved to the city from the country, the pay wasn’t as good as my current job and so I continued on as a Property Manager. Basically doing the beauty side of things on my friends on weekends.

I have spent $$$$$$$$ on different brands of makeup and skincare over the past 30 years finding the holy grail for my skin. Finding products that now suit my sensitive/rosacea skin type, has had me try a whole different range of skin care and make up in the past 10yrs.

To the point now……I know I am a stylist and you all follow me for styling tips. But I can’t hide my love of makeup and skincare also. A couple of times a month, I will be sharing my Tried & Tested products and how I find them on my skin. Of course, my skin type may not be like yours but I will share it anyway.

I would like to use my Blog as a way of sharing the things that I have found most valuable for to me, throughout my life.

Stay tuned for my first instalment on Instagram.
